To Be Happy

I've been thinking lately about what IS happiness, and what it takes to be happy, and why some people aren't happy. So I've decided to compile the 15 most happy moments of my life, in no particular order.

- Brittany and Jackie and I lay in the pool at my cabin at night looking at the stars, and I realized that they were my friends, I had never had friends like them before.

- Watching Brian perform in A Very Potter Musical. I don't know why, but I couldn't stop smiling and laughing.

- Seeing Josh for the first time in 2 years.

- And the time he asked me to marry him.

- Sitting on the hill next to a U2 concert. The weather was perfect. The seats were free. The music was great. I was with my daddy.

-Walking around St. George with my best friend looking at all the shops there. Not having much to do... but we had so much fun.

- I was trying to change my clothes in the back of the car one time, and my mom and sister were laughing at me so hard.

- Sitting on the couch with Marion and a terrible pizza, watching the Bachelor, and the sun was shining through the windows and it was a lovely day.

- Playing Malaguena for the high school kids. Playing that song for anyone period. It felt famous.

- I think it was that same day, I came home to a wonderful letter, I was wearing sandals for the first time that year, I was caught up on homework...

- Any time someone would cross  the river with me and run through the golf course.

-Laying in my bunk at Camp Heber, my last year at girls camp, watching the lightning storm and clouds roll across the valley.

- Moving all my stuff into my first place in SLC, then my mom and I went to the zoo together.

- Sitting in church alone in SLC at my Singles Ward, and even though I was alone that week, I still felt like I belonged.

-Directing Danse Bacchanale at the Logan competition.

I don't know what it is that makes a moment happy, and what the exact formula is, and how to tell when you're about to do something that will make that top 15 list...

But I know the one thing those moments had in common wasn't the place, or the person, or the whatever.... it was just because for some reason or another, in that moment, I knew that there was absolutely no where in the world I'd rather be.

I think that's what it takes to be happy. To know that where you are is perfect, and nothing could change that would make it better. It may not be perfect to everyone, but it's perfect to you.

And that's what makes a moment happy.
