Trains, Planes, and Automobiles

Joe and I have a cute car. I remember our first date, when he picked me up in this car. It was so clean. There was an open sun roof. I was smitten by how cool he looked driving this car.

In the past year, lots of things happened relating cars.

- Our car broke down in the middle of an on ramp...
- Becca got in a serious car accident and broke my favorite car.
- We moved to Provo.

Looking at that, you'd think, "Hey Lara, those first two things are bad but the last one, is that really so bad?" Lemme answer that question real quick- YES. That is the WORST thing on the list. Driving in Provo is a horror movie taking place in your car. It's terrifying. Because of all these things, I've kinda quit driving.

I feel bad about that. I feel like it's making me some kinda helpless woman who has to let her husband drive for her. It's not that bad though. I take the train every day so it doesn't even matter. And it's fun letting Joe drive because I can put my feet on the dashboard. And Joe is a great driver. He has a European license. You know he has to be good if he has one of those. He's even driven on the Autobahn! Bragging about how cool my husband is.  I don't mind not driving, though I wonder what people think of me when I tell them I don't really drive anymore.

Today, I had to drive. From Provo to SLC. Oh my freaking gosh. It was horrifying. I didn't enjoy it at all. I missed my cozy seat on the train with the sun coming through the window and the friendly people walking around. It gave me perspective for how nice it is to ride the train!

Having not driven in a while, I was able to really notice what it was that made traffic occur and all those things. Like people weaving through lanes when cars start slowing down. It was as if all of the sudden, all of the cars really needed a break.

I don't know where this post was going. I guess I just wanted to tell the world that
-I don't drive anymore.
-Driving is scary.
-Ride the train/bus/even airplanes.

I've never ridden Trax, but I can only imagine the traffic from Provo to SLC in the morning because I've driven from SLC to Provo during night time rush hour before :P

I don't enjoy driving at all. Southern California drivers are crazy! Sadly though our public transportation is terrible and we have basically almost no options. When I lived in Washington and was a poor high school and college student thats how I got around. I do miss talking to random strangers...although I'm kinda old so that was long before everyone starting starring at cell phones/ipads 24-7.

Maybe it's where you live but here as long as you watch the other fella driving is fine. I'm ready to have my own vehicle so i can drive with the windows down.

I just started taking the puclib transit here in AZ and I cant decide what it more scary... driving or having homeless people come ask me a million questions. One thing is clear. I am not in Utah anymore. Also. Watch for an email from me in a few minutes about design, I have a new blog friend that would love your help.

I miss living in a city where there was reliable public transportation. But I've gotten used to driving in California, zipping around in my little turbo Mini Cooper. :)

Hahah! I don't drive! I got my driver's license two years late and the week before I was leaving for college so I had a valid form of ID that wasn't my passport, and I haven't spent more than one hour in the driver's seat ever.. i get you! I hate driving!

You're not alone, I've never been a 'driver'. I've tried.. I've had so many lessons. But no joy! Sounds like a nightmare trying to drive where you are, trains aren't so bad!
