Rattle Snake: One

This is the story of why I have the best men in my life, my brother and my father.

I got off work Thursday night, and checked my phone for messages. My mom had called and left a message telling me I needed to call and talk to my dad before I got on facebook, and that she wouldn't be able to talk to me, because she's out of service.

Ok, sure no problem. That's like shouting "Oh HI! NO! Nothing's wrong!" Really loud. So I called my dad, and he said he'd call me back later.

So I called my brother to ask if he knew what was going on.

"Oh hi Lara! I'm at Andrew's!"

I explained the situation and asked if he knew what was up.

"Nah, we don't have our computers on over here, sorry... is that all you're wondering?"

"You're silly Brian. Silly silly silly... that's all. I'll talk to you later!"

I sat waiting for trax, feeling like negative a million bucks, and feeling like I was about to be sick.

I got a text from my mom telling me to call my dad, and I realized she had service so I called and talked to her  and learned everything.

Here's what happened!

My mother was at girl's camp all week, and she came back into town today to restock supplies. She talked to my dad, Dad said Brian went to band and was at a friend's house, and everything was awesome. She went downstairs on the computer, and my dad called down and said "I don't know how to feed this lizard! Do you want to come feed Brian's lizard?!"

She told him Brian could feed it when he came home, and my dad said "No, I think you should probably come feed it. It looks hungry." So she went and fed it. Then a few minutes later got a call from a friend.

"Hey Kellie! Is Brian alright?"

"I think so... Why wouldn't he be?"

"Well, I got a note from Michael (her son) saying he was on his way to the hospital to see how Brian was doing."

So then my mother did the motherly thing and freaked out.

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED.

Brian was on a hike last night, and was bit by a rattle snake.

I was furious when I found out. Furious that a snake would hurt my brother. Furious that my brother hadn't told me. Furious that I cared about someone enough to make me curl up on trax and cry and cry and cry, and not care who heard me, and cry and cry and cry riding my scooter home (turning me into a contradiction, might I say) and cry and cry and cry when I got on facebook and saw him posting statuses and being completely himself even though he had just been bitten by a rattle snake.

I curled up on my floor and cried and cried and cried. My mom called me again, calmed me down a bit....

My dad called me, and told me how all the nurses in the ICU said it was nice to have a patient there who was young, conscious, and not dying.

My little brother is mean. He's my best friend in the whole world, and he didn't tell me any of this.

My little brother is my best friend. He loves his sister enough to not tell her.

He'll be released from the hospital tomorrow, and even though he might not want your prayers, I do! I'm still gonna worry like it's my job. Because it kinda is.

I've got some great men in my life, to care for their family like this.

P.S. I told my brother about this post today when I called him after he was released from the hospital. I asked for the story, and here's what went down. He picked up a snake, it bit him, then rattled, then he dropped it, and said "Umm.... Is rattle snake venom deadly?" And his friend said yes, and had him call 911.

Then the dispatcher talked for him for about 30 minutes while they waited for EMTs. His buddies said he was flirting with the EMT the whole time, asking her how she was doing, and what she liked to do in her spare time, and if she had any pets....

He's a heart breaker.

Then he got to ride in an ambulance. Which apparently is something I need to put on my bucket list.

And then he heard that I put that picture up, and was super ticked and told me to take it down, and I said no, and said that I looked pale in those family pictures too, then he said it was fine to keep it up.

So mom! I have his permission to post this picture. So there.
